The Ramadaan Humanitarian Project (RHP) is one of the largest student humanitarian drives in South Africa. This initiative, hosted by the MSA (Muslim Students Association), started in 2004. This annual project has grown rapidly and now includes universities from all over the country. This year, like previous years, the MSA has partnered with the South African National Zakah Fund (SANZAF) and other organisations to ensure that the projects objectives are fulfilled. These objectives include:
1) Assisting underprivileged families with hampers 2) Fostering unity and cultural understanding among students 3) Encouraging social work and volunteering 4) Providing a platform to “give-back” with a “hands-on” approach
The RHP spans three phases:
1) Fund-raising: Collection of money (including Zakaah) by selling tickets, through donations and from the proceeds of various events. With the help of SANZAF, basic supplies and groceries are then purchased.
2) Packing: Supplies are moved onto campuses and made into hampers by students.
3) Distribution: The hampers are distributed with help of SANZAF and community organisations to those who are less fortunate.
The Muslim Student's Associations from the various campuses invites YOU to JOIN US and MAKE A DIFFERENCE. Muslim and Non-Muslim Students can both lend a helping hand by collecting money, packing hampers and helping with distribution.
Details will follow.

The following saying of the Prophet Mohammed PBUH highlights the great value attached to such initiatives:
"This is indeed the month [Ramadaan] of patience, and the reward for true patience is Paradise. It is the month of sympathy with one's fellowmen. It is the month wherein a true believer's sustenance is increased. Whosoever feeds another who fasted, in order to break his/her fast (at sunset), for the feeder there shall be forgiveness of sins and emancipation from the fire of Hell, and for such a feeder shall be the same reward as one who fasted (who he fed) without that persons reward being deceased in the least."
May Allah grant us similar rewards for our efforts! Ameen!
